There are worse fates

OK, so by installment #2, my biggest nitpicks so far are "cement wouldn't dry that fast" and "they would've fired her by now", so I think that means I'm still really digging it. Nice buildup, giving a little bit up each ep but also introducing new mysteries as they go. Some good comedy in the mix too, although more so in installment #1. Oh, and full frontal nudity. ;-P

The last installment comes out tonight, but I'm 2 days behind and I'm not gonna rush myself. Probably I'll be able to post a review by weekend's end. For now you get non-cut, non-spoiler snippets.

I just caught the first of Children of Earth and it was phenomenally good. Easily among the best of the new Who franchise to date.

Here's hoping the next 4 episodes of the miniseries are more of the same...

Just a quick reminder that Torchwood: Children of Earth is currently being broadcast in the UK this week (6-10 July) and will hit BBC America 20-24 July. For whatever reason, this is it for Torchwood Season 3: they're showing 5 episodes over 5 days. Seems it would be more fun (not to mention easier on the schedule) to have them shown over 5 weeks, but there you have it.

I'll post a review when I get time, likely for the whole miniseries rather than comment on each segment.

After much procrastinating, I've updated the look of skunque.com! For now, only clicking on the "DJ" side will actually go anywhere, but the site is now current with all my latest setlists, plus some snazzier graphics + animation*, so check it out!

* which had better work, dammit, I tested this in 5 different browsers...getting jQuery to work, cross-browser, with an iframe in the mix is tricky business.

I don't know if Michael Jackson actually is dead or not, but regardless, now is a good time to read this excellent post on celebrity death triads. I've heard talk of "threes" already, and if this prevents me from hearing even a fraction of what more's to come, it'll be worth it.

It was a fun night that stayed rockin' until 3 a.m! Although I wish I'd remembered to bring the new Wideband Network instead of leaving it sitting on the computer desk...

Anyway, here are my sets )

Does the fact that I'd already been planning to wear my brand new purple Go-go boots make me eminently qualified to DJ "Zombie-a-go-go" night at Spellbound?

I do believe it does.

Board votes not to put civil rights up for referendum; Congress is unlikely to intervene.

The way is clear for DC to perform its own marriages by the end of the year - which is a very exciting prospect, given its proximity.

Anyone on Blogger? Mine is here. It's mainly the sci-fi reviews, news posts, and what I post under the ::Atheism:: filter. At some point I've been meaning to expand out the "news" commentary bit, but haven't as of yet..

If you haven't read this already, you need to.

2.5 billion dollars spent (with no results) by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, an organization that has a severe case of confirmation bias, not to mention conflict of interest (many of the board members are practitioners of the practices under review).

To sum up:
  • Dismissing out-of-hand such things as anecdotal/alternative remedies or correlations such as immunizations/autism? Bad. (not to mention arrogant)

  • Spending a bit of money to methodically investigate claims to weed out the false from the true, in hopes of increasing medical knowledge and treatment options? Good.

  • Repeatedly running trials until you get the result you want, and dismissing overwhelming data that refutes your view? Insane and/or Criminal, take your pick.

Linked by way of Chris' friend Derrick: Funeral For a Time Lord.

Of course, if I had been there I would've lost it once they quoted Hartnell's farewell speech to Susan:
One day, I will come back. Yes, I shall come back. Until then there must be no regrets, no tears, no anxieties. Just go forward in all your beliefs, and prove to me that I am not mistaken in mine.
If I were planning on being buried I'd request that someone do something similar for me - but I'm not, so I won't.

For those at goth prom - sorry if my hair smelled bad (kind of sickly perfumy). I noticed some people kind of "pulling away" from me during the night. Just so you know, the smell wasn't anything intentional - it was a by-product the damn spray I was using to make my hair silver.

Anyway, sorry. I'll be a new color next week, so no more stinky spray.
